Lua Gomes Martins

Visiting date: August 2025

Email: lua.gomesmartins@student.kuleuven.be
Undergrad/Master: Bachelor's in Physics / Master's in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology: Nanophysics
Project: : TiC-MXene nanodielectrics: thin film preparation and measurements of the electro-mechanical properties
Lua started her academic journey with a Bachelor's in Physics at KU Leuven. After this more theoretical program she chose a more applied direction while staying close to what had drawn her to physics in the first place: the art of understanding complex phenomena. This is why she is fascinated by materials whose properties are altered at the nanoscale, a field where fundamental science meets practical applications. During her exchange program at KTH in Stockholm she came into contact with various biomedical applications, and this is where her interest in flexible electronics started. In her free time she enjoys crafts like sewing, (3D) drawing and reading.
Sergio Tortosa Martinez
Visiting date: July 2025 - August 2025

Undergrad/Master: Physics, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid
Project: Phase Composition and Formation Dynamicsof Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 through LPBF Processing
Sergio is currently in the last year of his Bachelor's physics degree in Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). Before starting his Bachelor's thesis, he will be doing a summer internship during the next two months as a part of an Erasmus+ Interships program UAM/CEBE agreement. He will be working at KU Leuven as a visiting student in understanding the phase composition and formation dynamics of Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 through LPBF processing. In his free time he enjoys playing tennis, reading and travelling.

Abhishek Rao

Visiting date: July 2025 - August 2025

Email: abhishek.rao@student.kuleuven.be
Undergrad/Master: The National Institute of Engineering, Mysore/ Erasmus Mundus Masters in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
Project: Printable flexible thermoelectric devices
After completing his Bachelors in Electronics Engineering, Abhishek joined the Nano masters, intending to pursue Nanoelectronics, but quickly fell in love with quantum physics, and particularly, manufacturing of quantum devices. Thus, he changed his track to Quantum Engineering at Grenoble, where he has been awarded the QuantAlps Edu scholarship. Currently on his first-year break, he is interning, helping out Isidro, who is a PhD student under Professor Francesco Molena Lopez. His current internship includes a lot of lab work, which will help him translate the same into a cleanroom-type environment.
Apart from the obvious interest in Quantum, Abhishek likes reading books, photography, playing the mandolin, and writing poetry. You can often find him in the evenings at one of two places - either in the library reading research papers, or in the sports center playing badminton.
